Specialist insurer Brit has announced two new appointments to its insurance investment management platform, Sussex Capital.

Cornell Fox will join Sussex Capital as head of investor relations and business development, while Masa Kitade has been named head of business development for Asia.

Fox will focus on leading the fundraising and investor relations activities of the British-backed ILS vehicle, while helping to develop the platform and implement its overall strategy.

Meanwhile, as business development leader in the Asia region, Kitade will work to develop the Sussex Capital platform in Japan and Asia more broadly, driving investor relations and managing vehicle strategy across the continent.

Fox comes from Bermuda-based Peak Capital (formerly Lutece Investment Management), where he was head of investor relations. He has also held positions at Validus Holdings and AlphaCat Managers Ltd., and also previously worked in catastrophe reinsurance at Hiscox.

Kitade previously served as Chief Marketing Officer at Mercury Capital Ltd and CEO of Eastpoint Asset Management Ltd., and has expertise in the Asian insurance market, having served as Regional Director and Head of Japan Business for Aon Asian.

Both new appointments will report to Chris Denton, Managing Director of Sussex Capital.

“Sussex Capital has an ambitious expansion strategy and significant potential in the ILS market,” Denton said. “We are excited to welcome Masa and Cornell to the team as we continue to grow the portfolio and drive the business forward.”

CFox also commented: “In just under five years, Sussex Capital has established itself as a highly respected ILS platform in the market. With significant demand from investors around the world to diversify across asset classes, I look forward to working closely with the team to capitalize on this potential, bringing the platform to even more investors.

Kitade added: “By providing investors with access to Brit’s industry-leading expertise, solutions and clientele, I look forward to expanding Sussex Capital’s presence in the Asian market, enabling ILS investors to region to access one of the most innovative and popular platforms in the market.”
