NNA – On March 14, 2022, Japan’s Ambassador to Lebanon, HE Mr. Takeshi Okubo, attended the completion ceremony of a project that saw the deployment of Japanese-made solar panels in 122 public schools across Lebanon , funded by a grant from Japan and implemented by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The ceremony took place at the second mixed public school of Islah in Saida, in the presence of HE Abbas Al-Halabi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Mr. Imad Al-Achkar, Director General of Education, in the presence of senior ministry officials.

This solar energy project aims to help targeted schools reduce their electricity consumption bill in order to reduce their overall expenses, especially in the context of a significant increase in fuel prices and a continued high demand for electricity. education, due to the influx of refugees, following which the Lebanese public schools welcomed Syrian children with open doors.

In his speech, Ambassador Okubo affirmed Japan’s willingness to enlighten the education sector in Lebanon and improve the learning environment of schools to encourage students to maximize their potential and achieve success. in the path of their choice.

The Ambassador also stressed the importance of renewable energy to reduce Lebanon’s heavy dependence on fuels, ensure stable energy production and preserve the environment, thus contributing to the country’s long-term recovery. He also called on Lebanese officials to place renewable energy at the heart of a comprehensive national strategy to address energy challenges, expressing Japan’s willingness to support initiatives that go in this direction.
