Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd. announced that three vessels, managed by its group companies MOL LNG Transport Co., Ltd. and MOL Ship Management Co., Ltd., received the Ministry Award (Note 1) from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Ministry of Transport and Tourism and Director General’s Award (Note 2) from Japan Meteorological Agency for their significant contribution to the development of the meteorological service through the observation and communication of meteorological and maritime conditions.

Since it is difficult to collect weather observation data at sea, the Japan Meteorological Agency and other meteorological institutes around the world generate weather data such as weather maps based on data from en route ships. This weather data not only helps to provide daily weather forecast and marine weather forecast but is also used to monitor and study global warming and climate change.

The Japan Meteorological Agency recognizes parties that contribute to marine weather reporting or ocean observation each year on June 1, Meteorological Day. LNG EBISU, LNG MARS and EMINENT ACE were selected this year for their continuous efforts to report marine weather observations over many years, contributing to the development of the agency’s meteorological services operations, and received letters of appreciation.

MOL is committed to assisting the Meteorological Agency by providing meteorological observation data and contributing to the safe operation of ships and the conservation of the global environment as a company that develops synergistically and sustainable with society.

MOL Managing Executive Officer Mitsuhisa Tanimoto receives a letter of appreciation.

MOL Group will contribute to achieving a sustainable society by promoting responses to sustainability issues, which are identified as social issues that must be addressed as a priority by the company.
We expect this initiative to contribute in particular to the achievement of “Safety and Value -Provide added value through safe transportation and our social infrastructure business-”, “Environment -Conservation of the marine and global environment-” and “Human and community -Contributing to the growth and development of people and communities-“.
