Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding between India and Japan for air quality and climate change research

New Delhi, Jun 8 (UNI) The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) of India, a professional body for joint research on air quality and climate currency.

Cabinet was informed about the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to establish guidelines for collaboration between the National Institute of Environmental Studies of Japan and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) of India to to conduct and implement joint research on air quality and climate change. .

No such MoU has been signed by ARIES, Nainital in the similar research areas with other foreign bodies in the past, a cabinet statement said.

Possible activities between the National Institute of Environmental Studies of Japan and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences of India include joint use and operation of scientific instruments, exchange of information scientific and technical studies on observation methods, joint analysis of observation data and writing of scientific reports, joint teaching and research activities, exchange of visiting researchers, including doctoral students with the aim of carrying out research and joint scientific workshops or seminars.

The Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) is an autonomous research institute established under the Department of Science and Technology. It is a center of excellence for research in astronomy and astrophysics and atmospheric sciences.

The Institute conducts research on air pollution and climate change on earth, the formation and evolution of the sun, stars and galaxies.

The institute’s research group is made up of researchers, doctoral students, post-docs and guest researchers. Researchers are also involved in the design and development of sophisticated and advanced scientific instruments and are supported by a team of engineers and technical staff involved in the construction and operation of instruments at both campuses – Manora Peak and Devastal.

The National Institute of Environmental Studies (NIES) is the only research institute in Japan that undertakes a wide range of environmental research in an interdisciplinary and comprehensive manner.

NIES works to produce scientific findings on environmental protection. NIES works on research projects that include strengthening the institute’s research base through basic research, data acquisition and analysis, preservation, and provision of environmental samples.
