Japan has been a reliable development partner for the Maldives, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.

The vice president made the remark on Monday, during talks with Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori at the president’s office.

During the Ambassador’s call, discussions took place on the long-standing friendship ties between the Maldives and Japan.

As such, Vice President Naseem said that the Maldives has excellent working relations with Japan and said that Japan is a reliable development partner for the Maldives. Vice President Naseem also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continued assistance provided in times of need.

The meeting also saw the Japanese Ambassador stress that economic diversification, environment and climate change as well as disaster management are key focus areas in working with the Government of the Maldives.

The Japanese Ambassador presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on January 20, 2022.

The Ambassador expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral relations and work together on regional and global issues as the two countries mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022.

Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1967.
