Maersk Training and ClassNK target offshore wind in Japan and APAC


Japanese classification society ClassNK has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maersk Training regarding offshore wind farm operator training and alternative fuel vessel crew education in Japan and the APAC region.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, both parties have declared that they will cooperate proactively to enable high quality training that meets international standards to be provided and therefore a competent local workforce to be provided to the growing offshore wind industry in Japan as well as in the APAC region.

Based on its expertise and experience in ship inspection and certification, ClassNK will work with Maersk Training to develop a set of guidelines including boat transfer safety, which is one of the most frequent HSE risks. in the offshore wind sector.

In addition, research will be carried out jointly on the training of seafarers for ammonia-powered vessels.

ClassNK said the company already provides certification services to the maritime training industry to fulfill its mission of supporting the ever-changing needs of the maritime industry to ensure the safety of life at sea and promote the protection of the marine environment.

The company plans to continue to expand its service to support increased skills for offshore wind farms and alternative fuel vessels to help achieve a decarbonized society.
